Beginner Piano Information for the New Musician or Instrument
Here, I provide you with all the resources you’ll need to begin playing piano as a new musician or as a new instrument.
Depending on what you are, you can skip around.
Piano for the New Musician: A Beginner’s Guide
In here, you’ll learn about the piano in two parts.
Part 1: In the first part of the guide, I teach you about the following things:
- A short instrument history and lesson in music,
- What the different types of pianos are so that you understand what we’re referring to,
- The proper posture of sitting at the piano, and
- What the layout looks like so you know how to sit at the instrument
Part 2: Next, we get into the details on how to begin playing piano, from time of thought until you’re playing at a beginner’s level!
- How to find and buy a piano or keyboard,
- The basics of playing piano,
- Methods of improvement,
- How music “works”,
- The different styles of music available to play,
- Help getting started in your chosen genre, and
- How to go from beginner to advanced, and deciding on what level you want to be.
Then, when you’re done reading the guide (or the parts of it you’re interested in), you can head over to my Reviews area to see what gear I would recommend right now.
How to Play with A Little Off Beat (ALOB)
This is a page that gives you information on how I can help you here at A Little Off Beat.
This is a description on what I provide here and on my YouTube page. This includes free videos on how to play songs, some free lessons, and my overall lessons page.
I also provide other resources if you don’t think this will be for you.
Whether or not you use what I can provide, I hope you find a way to get started! My goal is to get you playing in any way I can.
Online Piano Lessons for the Beginner Musician or New to the Instrument
This is the area that I provide my beginner’s lessons. These are short, daily videos that get you playing immediately and with the least amount of effort.
I know how frustrating it can be to learn a new instrument, especially if you have absolutely no musical background.
The style of my lessons removes all that.
Simply begin following my lessons for the 5-10 minutes per day they last, and you’ll find yourself playing piano in no time.
See the Beginner’s Lessons page for more information on my methods and the lessons!
More to Come in the Future and Other Lessons
This will be an ever expanding area of the website. Let me know of anything you guys want me to add to the site that would be helpful.
I’m currently thinking about having the following pages:
Beginner’s Lessons (technique and theory of playing)
Lessons through learning scales, chords, theory, and technique, all integrated with playing and learning songs!
Lessons by Song (playing by learning songs)
In this style, I create lessons based off of popular songs. Learn the necessary piano techniques and theory while primarily learning how to play songs!
Practice Play Alongs (practice sessions via video)
While I have example pratice sheets and regimens that you can use to practice on your own, in these modules I help you practice with play along videos!
Please give me some feedback on which of these interest you the most and I’ll focus on those!
In the future, I’ll also be making some Intermediate and Advanced Lessons. If these are of interest to you, please let me know.
